Say a little prayer for Ariel

Update on Ariel (April 3):
Greg called this morning. He found Ariel's body. Yes, indeed she was killed by coyotes and must have died of internal injuries. He found her 500 yards from the site where he thinks the fight with coyotes had taken place. She must have gone so far on her own.

Rest in peace Ariel. We will always hold you in our hearts.

"We who choose to surround ourselves
with lives even more temporary than our
own, live within a fragile circle;
easily and often breached.
Unable to accept its awful gaps,
we would still live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only
certain immortality, never fully
understanding the necessary plan."

Greg Accardo with Ariel

Those who follow this blog know by now Greg Accardo from Louisiana pretty well. His "confession" about his addiction to tracking resonated with many people, and they talked to me about it at the Deer Search dinner a couple of days ago.

Yesterday we heard from Greg when he called here with the bad news. On Monday evening Greg took his two dachshunds, a four-year-old Ariel and her son Axel, for a walk. There is a 650-acre property not far from his house, and Greg lets his dogs run there almost every day. Greg heard the dogs open, and it sounded like they were running game; and then he heard coyotes. When he started to call, Axel came back but Ariel did not. Ariel is still missing.

Say a little prayer for Ariel.

I would never let them run loose in that area, we too have to be careful !! I'm so sorry for your loss, because I know how hard it to lose a special pet. We lost our big Milo a Bassett Hound recently, he had Luekemia !! I know the way you lost her was bad. God Bless you !!!
