Ten puppies for Anna and Fred, wirehaired dachshunds out of European lines

Today, on February 3, 2012, "Anna" (Diestel von Moosbach-Zuzelek) whelped a litter of 10 puppies: 4 females and 6 males. This is absolutely amazing as it is her first litter, and she was born on October 15, 2005 so she is over 6 years old. Also the mating was done through AI. It proves again that fertility runs through a female bloodline as Anna is a daughter of Elli, who has always had large litters. Elli's dam Agata also had eight pups per litter.

The pups are sired by Fred (Fidget von der Bismarck-Eiche) who was imported from Germany and lives in Neosho, MO. He was bred Stefan, Vanessa Fuß and Nadja Frazier, and his pedigree is  here I saw Fred in 2007 when I went to visit his owner Cameron Kruse, and I really liked the dog.

Fred (Fidget von der Bismarck-Eiche) is a nice dog - alert and driven in the field, low key and relaxed at home.

We also liked Anna a lot when we had a chance to see her at Trackfest in Quincy, IL in 2006. Her pedigree is identical to Billy's, and you can see it here.

The pups looks great as the parents. WHat a big litter. It´s unusual that everyone survive I think. I only had 3 and I hope Tyra will get some more next litter.
We´ve got about 40 cm snow since yesterday. Only the tails is to seen of dogs when they are out playing.

It is absolutely a confirmed fact that large litters runs in lines.

Pig farmers have been on this track a long time.

My therio gave a seminar on increasing fertility in dogs and one important aspect was choosing your foundation bitches from lines that have large litters.

Congrats to Anna and Fred!

Thanks Majron and Claire. Majron - how many pups were in the litter that Tyra came from? BTW, we don't have any snow now. Very unusual weather, very mild.

Her Mom had 5-6 pups. Thats normal for us. My mentor in breeding , she had 7 last year and now 5 pups, same female but another male,
We had a very cold morning -24 C. The dogs dont want to go out...

Majron,
Some of our females seem very fertile and consistent in their size of litters. Elli had three litters: 9,8 and 9 pups, Keena 7, 7 and 9. The largest litter we had was 10.

Good luck, and stay warm.

That is an awesome litter. Congrats Anna and Fred! I am currently wrapping up a litter of 6 pups that my female Scout whelped on 12-12-11. Taking care of 6 pups is a big enough job. I can only imagine caring for 10. I also remember a couple years ago when you had about 18 pups to care for Jolanta. I wish Rick good luck with the pups. I have also referred several people on my pup waiting list to Rick. As we know these pups are hard to come by and these waiting lists can get long.

Brian,
We raised 14 pups (2 litters of 9 and 5 born 2 days apart) in 2010. Yours and Rick's litters are related through Fred (if I am not mistaken he is a sire of Rosco, a sire of your pups).
